Plein Air Printmaking
Schools/Groups

Working directly on to aluminium plates, groups of up to 35 students can drypoint engrave and print a series of proof prints as their plate progresses. All this achieved whilst working directly in the landscape with the use of mobile studio facilities.

You choose

Whether you are bringing your group to Cornwall or to somewhere else in the UK/Europe, the mobile studio brings the printing studio to your chosen location.

Drypoint/engraving

Drypoint Engraving offers a perfect wow factor experience for all kinds of mark makers, and provides an ideal opportunity for students to capture a first hand response to landscape and the ever changing effects of light and weather conditions.

Oliver West has been offering Plein Air Printmaking workshops since 1995

Enjoying Creativity outdoors

If you are heading to West Penwith, Oliver already has a list of gem locations to suggest. If need be we can make sure that the workshop can be located a walking distance from your group’s accommodation. Equally you may already have somewhere in mind.

With the use of the mobile workshop facilities, we will be working directly in the countryside preparing, making and proofing images without leaving the chosen location.Oliver is used to hosting large groups in all kinds of weather conditions. Oftentimes the added influence of changeable weather conditions only adds to a more dynamic set of prints made. It doesn’t seem to dampen the students enthusiasm for the printmaking process.

Workshop flow

There are various tried and tested options for structuring a successful workshop day with a group of young people in tow.
The usual approach works to the plan of an approx 9.30am - 3.30pm flow. With the combination of seeking out a view and the variation of natural working speeds means that it’s a rare for the workshop flow to encounter bottlenecks. This structure works well for the students who are keen to squeeze an extra print out before days end!.
Splitting the day into two group flows also works if you would like to add an extra activity into the day.Other options for the structure might also come into play if your group is made up of smaller separate groups.Bottom line, the structure of day is very adaptable, so suggest away!Re materials : all materials can be provided or you may choose to bring part of the required list yourself.

For costs : a full group or price per printmaker quote can be arranged.
